Hanoi Summer School in Economics 2010

The 2010 Hanoi Summer School in Economics is underway. A range of informative and thought provoking lectures have already been delivered, with more to come over the following days.

Water Resources University

Classes at the WRU (Water Resources University) commenced on Tuesday 17 August 2010.

Professor Cuong Le Van, the Research Director at the National Centre of Scientific Research in Paris, kicked off the Summer School with a two-day course on International Macroeconomics. Professor Cuong covered a range of models and concepts, including gains from trade, general equilibrium, exchange rates, terms of trade, and international labour movements.

Professor Hung Nguyen Manh has also delivered a cutting edge lecture at the Water Resources University (19 August 2010) on the Economic Dynamics of Natural Resource Use.

Classes will continue over the coming days and will include the following topics:

  • Water Resource Economics (Arnaud Reyaud – 20 August 2010)
  • Macroeconomics (Partha Chatterjee – 20 August 2010)
  • Growth Theory (Stefano Bosi – 26 August 2010)
  • Corporate Finance (Patrice Fontain – 27 August 2010)

The lectures delivered at the WRU are aimed at researchers, undergraduate students and graduate students in the fields of economics, natural resource studies and environment studies.

ISPONRE

ISPONRE (Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment) has also already hosted a range of presentations on topics relating to International Climate Policy and Renewable Energy Policy, such as Carbon capture & storage and renewable energy in Vietnamese power system expansion. Presenters have included Professor Ha Duong Minh, Dr Nhan Nguyen Thanh and Dr Kien Tran Mai

Professor Cuong has also spoken at ISPONRE (19 August 2010) on a range of topics, including New Technology, Human Capital, Total Factor Productivity and the Growth Process for Developing and Emerging Countries, as well as a lecture on Growth and Exhaustible Resources.

Classes will continue over the coming days and will include the following topics:

  • Sustainable Natural Resource Management (Michel Delara – 20 August 2010)

The lectures delivered at the ISPONRE office are aimed at policy makers, managers and researchers working for agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; other researchers; and lecturers and students in the fields of natural resource studies, environment studies and economics.
