Currently, he is working on an article about Vietnam in the 10th century and has completed pieces on the historiography of Champa and the Nam tien process in Vietnamese history. Historiography, ethnography of Vietnam is one of his most research interests. He has published a book on the last Vietnamese ruler: The End of The Vietnamese Monarchy (Yale Council on Southeast Asian Studies, 1993). With passion in research and love for Vietnamese history, he has planned a big long-term project of writing a textbook history of Vietnam which will enable readers to learn as much as they want about his favorite country without falling asleep over the pages.
